Sony Xperia 1 IV
Smartphone innovation again at last?
The Sony Xperia 1 smartphone family is growing: With the new Xperia 1 IV, Sony wants to shake up the smartphone market once again. But why is this so interesting for the photo and video scene?
Real optical zoom at last
Key feature of the new smartphone: it has the world's first optical zoom of 85-125 mm in a smartphone. This is paired with a very high autofocus speed at any focal length and with each of the four cameras built into the device.
On the back, the new Xperia 1 Mark IV offers a 16mm f/2.2 wide-angle camera, a 24mm f/1.7 main camera (both with 12MP each) and an additional 12MP camera with an optical zoom of 85-125mm. All three cameras offer the ability to shoot at 120 fps and have full autofocus performance and (except for the 16 mm wide-angle camera) also optical image stabilization.
THE new video smartphone
Another new feature here is the ability to record movies in 4K HDR, which look fabulous on the new 6.5", 4K HDR OLED display with 120 Hz. As has been the case with Xperia devices for some time, this display is also in the 21:9 format that takes some getting used to, but is now 50% brighter than its predecessor and offers Real Time HDR support.
Full power
All this power is no coincidence. Sony relies on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm, which was only introduced this year, for the Xperia 1 IV. In the case of the Xperia 1 IV, the SoC (system-on-a-chip) offers 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal memory, energy-saving operation and the advertised HDR features. Of course, 5G network compatibility is also on board.
