Challenge #1 - Nature

The winners

as part of the Online Fototage 2020

The first challenge of the Online Photo Days was all about "Nature". In addition to this challenge, there were 3 respective tasks to give you certain creative points of reference: Water, Shapes and Native Landscape. During this time, you became photographically active or picked out existing pictures to take a closer look at them again. The decision was not easy for us, there were great and creative submissions and we tried to pick out the best! These are our winners of the 1st Challenge:

Here are the respective tasks once again:

Go ahead and fulfill the following photographic tasks. The pictures do not necessarily have to be taken now, i.e. you can also send in existing pictures, but try to take it as an incentive to become photographically active now.

1. Water

From the puddle to the sea: skillfully stage water in nature.

2. Shapes

Look for lines and shapes that your natural surroundings offer you.

3. Local landscape

Show us your surroundings.

Harry Kraus

Winning picture: Eibsee on the theme of water

Location: Eibsee (Zugspitze)
Photographer Harry Kraus on the background of his picture:

Having already observed the Eibsee and the weather online via the webcam for many weeks, I used this day for my planned shots. There was to be hardly any wind and it was to be as lightly cloudy as possible. As the Eibsee was frozen over for a very long time, it took a long time to find the right time and it got light very early as a result. The Eibsee is about 220 km away from me and the photo was taken at around 5:30 a.m.
So I set off in the middle of the night

Eveline Killermann

Winner on the subject of shapes:

About the photographer Eveline Killermann:
I come from the newspaper industry and have been photographing since 2016. Portrait, reportage, nature photography and, more recently, mourning and funeral photography are my photographic themes. With the Lockdown, my photography has been limited to nature. The photo was taken in my garden, with a few other leaf and water drop motifs. However, the submitted picture was immediately my favorite photo from the series

Peter Buchholz

Winner on the subject of shapes:

About the photographer Peter Buchholz

About me, I am 55 years old and I take photographs as a hobby and as a balance to my work. I live in a small village called Hamb?hren just outside the town of Celle in Lower Saxony. I like being outdoors, love nature and enjoy everything beautiful. Among other things, I really, really enjoy taking pictures with old vintage lenses, of which I bought a few beautiful lenses together, such as Helios 44-2 58mm, Pentacon 50mm, MIR-1B 37mm, Carl Zeiss Tessar 50mm, Minolta Rokkor 20mm, Meyer Optik G?rlitz Primoplan 58mm, Jupiter 9 85mm and an Auto Revuenon 55mm. My picture was taken at my garden pond with the Pentacon 50mm on a Sony A7RII. During the Corona period, I photographed a lot at home in my own garden, just like here, and I'm glad to have this opportunity.

J?rg Franzkowiak

Winner on the theme "Local landscape"

This photo was taken a few years ago when I was out in the fields in the morning, just a few minutes' walk from our house. Photographed with an EOS 5D Mk III and the EF 24-105 f/4.

What often remains hidden on the ground

Most people know the city they live in like the back of their hand. At least that's what they would say if they were asked. But how well do we really know our immediate surroundings? Especially off the beaten track and beyond the facades of buildings. Do we know who the people are who live just a few kilometers away from us? Do we know them? What do we know about their stories?
